Day of the Doctor(s)

The Hippocratic Oath is often referenced on our outdoor adventures: First, do no harm.

Monday started at the foot doctor that did Debra’s surgery in 2014. He is from Detroit, and very direct. We were anticipating some blowback on the hike but to the contrary, he was surprisingly supportive. “That’s awesome! You should absolutely do that!” Without going into great detail, he assessed and did some work on the blisters and prescribed antibiotics. He chalked it up to the wet conditions and was encouraging about the plan to continue with the hike after a few weeks of paddling.

Next was a visit to Raleigh Orthopaedic, where we wish they offered some sort of frequent flyer program. The knee is really the area of concern for long term damage and we were fortunate to get Debra in right away with a PA. The consensus was that the x-rays looked good enough that with some heavy anti-inflamatories and a week or two on the river, we should be ready to return to the trail.

We are turning lemons into lemonade and packing our gear for the river.
